Choosing a Honeymoon Destination

Honeymoon Honeymooners Holiday

A Honeymoon is considered to be a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. It is a special break that celebrates the start of a marriage. For many people a honeymoon is also the most expensive holiday they will ever experience. Therefore ensuring the vacation lives up to expectations is a high priority.

Personal Preferences

When it comes to booking a dream holiday both the bride and groom may have differing interests and specific ideas of what makes the perfect type of break. Some couples may want to explore famous landmarks or take part in adventurous activities, whilst others may dream of relaxing in the tropics by clear azure waters.

If a couple shares views on the perfect honeymoon setting, their budget will generally provide the deciding factor. On the other hand, if a bride and groom have opposing interests a compromise will have to be reached, which may mean that the honeymoon location ends up being somewhere neither of them dreamt of visiting.

Popular Choice

The most popular type of honeymoon destination tends to be a tropical paradise. Calm, clear waters, golden sands and sizzling sunshine generally offers a good compromise, if couples have difficulty deciding what honeymoon location to choose. This type of honeymoon provides an opportunity to rest and unwind, but can also be an expensive option if couples opt not to make use of the many all-inclusive resort deals that are available to honeymooners.

Honeymoon Accommodation

Whatever type of dream honeymoon you may be considering there will be a wide choice of accommodation to choose from. Many destinations will offer seaside bungalows, private villas, intimate hotels or all-inclusive resorts, some of which cater specifically for honeymooners.

Whilst an all-inclusive arrangement provides the best option if you have a tight budget, couples may find themselves spending all their time on the resort, instead of actually exploring the history and sights of the honeymoon destination they have booked. Therefore deciding what you want to do, on your honeymoon, may help you decide what type of accommodation is likely to provide the best option for your requirements.

Weather Considerations

Before choosing the ideal honeymoon location it is worth thinking about the type of weather you will want to enjoy. Many tropical paradise destinations have rainy seasons or extreme heat. Different countries experience summers that are a contrast to the weather you may be used to – for instance, hurricanes and rainy seasons – so researching your preferred destination is important if you want to ensure your honeymoon isn’t spoilt by extreme weather conditions.

Work Matters

Another important, and perhaps restrictive, factor is taking time off work. A wedding and honeymoon will generally be the longest break time away from work, that a couple will have so it is worth making the best use of this extended time by choosing a honeymoon destination that provides a wide variety of choice and activity.

Honeymooning Tip

To ensure you receive the best level of service, always inform your honeymoon hotel, or resort, that you are celebrating your honeymoon. This should be done when you make your initial reservation. Most hotels like to recognise honeymooners so you may find a special gift in your room or may even receive a room upgrade.
